Important Sources

Important Sources

The following are sources where I have found ideas for my musings.  They have stimulated my thinking and broadened my perspective of the world in which I live.

AARP Bulletin.

The Bulletin is published monthly except for February and August by AARP.

Bowling Alone by Robert Putnam.

Putnam makes the argument that there is a direct correlation between the social capital of a community and its health.  The book was instrumental in starting my Musings in 2004.

Local Newspapers.

My local newspapers have been a source of ideas and information for me.  It is important to support local newspapers, television stations and radio stations for a strong and healthy community.

KPC News Media

The Herald Republican (Angola, Indiana)

The News Sun (Kendallville, Indiana)

The Pilot News (Plymouth, Indiana)

The Star (Auburn, Indiana)

Ask your local newspaper to weekly publish Pastor Dave’s Musings From The Heartland.

National Geographic.

A monthly magazine published by the National Geographic Society to use the power of science, exploration, education and storytelling to illuminate protect the wonders of our world.

ROTARY.

A ROTARY program was genesis for a number of the Musings.  Service clubs provide an opportunity for community leaders to come together and discuss issues, concerns and problems.

Smithsonian.

The Smithsonian magazine is published monthly (except for January/February issue and July/August issue) by Smithsonian Enterprises.  All subscribers to Smithsonian are members of the Smithsonian Institution.

The Pilgrim Odyssey Podcast: Toward The Splendid Glory by Silouan Green.

Every episode of this podcast brings inspirational stories and practical advice on living deeply, united in a spirit of friendship and love.

Search Institute.

The institute bridges research and practice to help young people be and become their best.  They have identified 40 positive supports and strengths that young people need to succeed.

Readers.

Let me know what is going on in your community so that I might include it in one of my Musings.
